The Silent Valley National Park is an evergreen rain forest in Palakkad which is located in the Sahyadri Range. This is the only evergreen patch of forest covering the Sahyadri range. Transport is available only till Mukkali and the rest is a long walk till the source of the river Kunthipuza. The Silent Valley unlike its name always echoes with the sound of teeming wildlife. It has a wide variety of flora and fauna.

Ceylon Frog Moth, the Nilgiri Laughing Thrush and the Great Indian Hornbill to more than 110 species of plants, the Silent Valley is an El Dorado for the nature lovers.
The Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary in Palakkad is also quite an enchanting experience for the wildlife lovers. Confined amidst the valleys of the Anaimalai Range, the Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary is a thickly forested region. It is the home of Tigers, Kraits, Spectacled Cobras Vipers, Bonnet Macaques, Turtles, Darters, Little Cormorants and Black Eagles.

The best time to visit Silent Valley Wildlife Sanctuary is from September to March. Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary should be avoided during the monsoon.
