Wildlife in Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary:
Idukki Wildlife Sanctuary is the natural habitat for Elephants, bison, bear, wild boars, Sambar wild dogs, jungle cats, tiger, wild boar and has a very large concentration of various species of snakes including cobra, viper, kraits and numerous non poisonous reptiles.
The birds in the sanctuary include myna, jungle fowl, black bulbul and woodpecker laughing thrush, peafowl, kingfisher and many more.
The most important animal here is the Nilgiri Tahr. Quite an extinct race during the 50s, this forest has been the home to these Nilgiri Tahrs and now they have increased in numbers.

One can take a safari across the Idukki Sanctuary in Kerala or arrange for an excellent boat trip.
Best Time to Visit:
Nature lovers can visit the sanctuary throughout the year but the best time is September to October.
