Introduction
The Temple Festival Thrissur or the Thrissur Pooram Festival was introduced by the Maharaja of Kochi and is one of the most colorful and spectacular festival of Kerala. The Temple Festival held in the month of April-May lights up the streets of Kerala. The dazzling processions, the fireworks, ornamented tuskers which adorn the streets of Kerala is surely worth a watch. Tourists from different parts flock to the city during this time of the year to be a part of the colorful festivities and taste the flavor of Kerala.
History of the Temple Festival Thrissur:
The Thrissur Pooram or the Temple Festival of Thrissur is a grand spectacle which was started by the Maharaja of Kochi. During this festival there are two groups called the Paramekkavu and Thiruvambadi which arrange a competition and display their artistic skills. An age old festival the Thrissur Pooram was started to worship Lord Vakunnathan at the Vadakunnathan temple. The festival goes on for 36 hours and it is one of the grandest celebrations of Kerala.
